Design Engineer

Overview

Parabel is commercializing a proprietary, environmentally-friendly algae that generates over two hundred times more energy per acre than traditional biofuel crops like soybeans. Using a cost-effective, modular cultivation process that can be massively scaled, Parabel will produce renewable feed stock oils for use in applications such as transportation fuels (e.g. biodiesel), heating oil, and plastics. This development places Parabel in a leading position to address an ever-increasing multi-hundred billion dollar global market need for sustainable, affordable sources of petroleum derived products.

The Design Engineer will be responsible for furthering the design of and prototyping a scalable, cost-effective open bioreactor system that meets cost and performance objectives. This role will work with other engineering team members as well as scientists, technicians, management and Quality Assurance professionals on a daily basis. Strong interpersonal and skills are a must, as is the ability to communicate effectively through verbal presentations and in writing. Candidates are expected to be highly competent in the following areas:

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering or similar engineering field from an accredited school. Masters degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years experience in a design engineering role (preferably in water treatment, bioreactor design, or similar).
• Experience preparing process flow diagrams, and P&IDs
• Experience analyzing mass balance and/or energy balance
• Design mechanical systems such as hydraulic system, pumping stations or similar types of technology

Skill-Set

• Very detailed oriented and mathematically competent
• Proficient user of AutoCAD, Excel, and typical engineering design tools
• Independent, but capable of working with a wide variety of disciplines
• Capable and competent in presenting to management
• Working knowledge of industrial/outdoor pumps, valves, controls equipment
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
• Comfortable working in an outdoor construction environment
